Worthy of the Truth

Schatzie_King_11192015While this is a “mixed bag” (at least it’s not a bag of kibble!) blog post, I felt it needed to be so the message would be REALLY heard because it is about how worthy of the truth are our dogs.

Let me start out with my short and goofy “Weird Animal Girl“scenario first because I think it shows how important, precious and special our relationships with our dogs are to us. Continue reading Worthy of the Truth

How Dogs Enrich Our Lives

08112010There are SO many ways dogs can and do benefit us so I wanted to share several articles with you on what science has discovered in some of those ways, besides the obvious one of companionship although companionship would be THE most beneficial of course! But they help our health as well. In addition, there is information on how dogs process things through their brains and mouths that might shed some light on some of their behavior for you.

Dogs and Dander

This is a very interesting article on dogs and how they help our children with colds and asthma. These days people seem to have become overly concerned with germs, allergens, and the whole microscopic world without even thinking that those things are all around us and and in us – in fact all around the earth’s atmosphere (Bacteria Live at 33,000 feet) and are there for a reason. People have somehow come to believe (at least many of them) that when they become pregnant all of a sudden the family dog or pet is suddenly disposable because of possible allergens, dander, danger, etc. I hope the article/study below puts an end to that sort of thinking. Did I Make a Difference?

Penny_and_Meesh6At the end of the day, the only questions I will ask myself are…Did I love enough? Did I laugh enough? Did I make a difference?” ~Katrina Mayer

Anyone who knows me in person will most likely say that I am a touchy/feely person who loves to laugh. I love to make others feel good. This past summerhad a big swim party at my Mom’s house for the 4th of July. I’m much more into the fun and games than the food at events like this – being in the water, playing games with the kids, interacting and talking to people, playing with whatever dog is there. I’m not a social butterfly but in a situation like this where I know most of the people I sort of just flit around like a butterfly from flower to flower enjoying what each person has to share and offer.

It’s during times like this that I put aside my viewpoints so I can hear people, really hear them. I don’t offer my advice or help with any health challenges for pets or people UNLESS asked and then I do so gently because so many people I know here are not into natural health at all. When I do make suggestions (after being asked) I do hear the excuses of “it costs too much” or “that’s too much trouble” or “I don’t have the time” – I always make essential oil suggestions! I don’t understand it but I always offer a solution of some sort that IS doable if the person asking is willing. After watching the video by a YL Silver on overcoming objections (see below) – it is SO funny by the way but excellent in the wording and delivery – I learned a few great pointers….but I digress. Vaccines Can’t Immunize

After_zoomie_foamThe very thought that this toxic, unnatural substance we all seem to blindly allow to be injected into our bodies and that of our animals being something that can immunize us is absolutely absurd. The idea behind vaccines might have been a noble one but a rather naive and ignorant idea at best.

Did you know there is no such thing as a safe vaccine? No in fact, that is what these scientists supposedly are still trying to do – make vaccines safe and even effective. Nope they aren’t effective either. In fact, they just set the body up for auto-immune disorders because they do the exact opposite of what they were intended to do. Feed Raw REAL Bones

rawhidebonesI shared this poster the other day on our council’s Facebook page and one woman astounded me with her comments – mostly because she showed a complete lack of knowledge on raw feeding. The only reason she could have stated what she did is that it was a knee-jerk reaction to continue to support the ease and comfort of feeding “clean, neat” rawhide bones to her dogs. (Click on the photo so you can enlarge and read it all). Continue reading Feed Raw REAL Bones

The Pet Food Stupidest ACTS Award

The Pet Food Stupidest ACTS AwardThe Truth About Pet Food run by Susan Thixton has an annual contest to vote for the stupidest act in pet food. To quote Susan “Each year major acts of stupidity occur in pet food, however when the votes were tallied, the FDA has always managed to acquire more of your votes. Will the FDA continue to win our award? Or will someone take the prize (the failure) away from them? It’s up to you.Continue reading The Pet Food Stupidest ACTS Award

It’s STILL Processed Junk Food!

Processed_junk_petfood-300x226Often I will hear people say, “But I feed my dogs/cats a ‘holistic‘ pet food“. Folks, NOTHING that comes in a bag or can for people or pets is anything but processed junk food. That also shows me that the word “holistic” is being used completely out of context with little to no understanding of what that word means. Continue reading It’s STILL Processed Junk Food!

Make Sure it Really IS a Treat

Make Sure it Really IS a TreatNot all dog treats are created equal. If it is truly to be a treat, then make sure it doesn’t turn into a death sentence for your pet. There are some great and viable alternatives to use for training and reward that won’t cause harm and in fact can be a little additional nutrition for your dog.

Just do all things in moderation – one of the laws of health. Treats need to be counted as part of the dietary intake for the day. Continue reading Make Sure it Really IS a Treat
